Homeless with style
Ten years ago, a woman in the Texas heat camped under an overpass. It was early in the morning, and I discovered her on my photo walk. She, and a few other people, were packing up their quarters for the day.
She allowed me to take her photo but didn’t want anything in return. I offered to help her move, but she declined. She wasn’t interested in talking, either. She had somewhere to go.
I’ve volunteered in soup kitchens before. Some of the people that came for food, also came for the company. They’ll talk just about anything, except themselves. They are proud of the way they have survived and don’t want anyone interfering with their daily routine.
I’ve seen many homeless that look forlorn, that seem to have given up, but this proud lady had class. There was something about her that exuded strength.
I’m not sure I’d have the same dignity if I were to become homeless. Would you?

Beautiful photo of humanity at its best.. healing, uplifting, and peaceful respect. It’s these type of people (and yourself) who deserve the world. 🌎
